September 2020 Intentions

September 2020 Intentions

I woke up today feeling optimistic. September has always been my New Year’s Day, my manifestation of long held and quietly spoken intentions, my reset and rebirth. I didn’t expect to feel this way in month six of a global pandemic, but here we are.

I’ve never really spoken my intentions out loud, especially in regards to career and professional goals. But if there were ever a time to take everything you’ve got and throw it against the wall to see what sticks, it’s this year. So, here goes.

September 2020 Intentions:

I want to write profiles of public people for publication (read: money). I’ve been practicing this for years with my blog series, These Are My Bitches, and my podcast, Ladyland. I also have twenty-ish years of experience being chill in front of quasi-famous people, legit famous people, and high-ranking elected officials.

Pivot to video. I know, lolz. But seriously, pivot to video. I have a Bachelor’s degree in electronic video production that I intended to use for music videos (remember the nineties?), but instead now primarily use for ephemeral internet over-shares. Inspired by Joy the Baker and Read a Book! With Kara, I’m dreaming of ways to take Ladyland to IGTV and YouTube Live. We’re currently mapping out some ‘where are they now’ episodes to check in with past Ladyland guests and talk to them about how they’ve been affected by the pandemic. I’d love for these episodes to also be available as videos.

I want to record my social media workshop and package it as an online class people can pay for and do from home.

I want to do more public readings.

I want to re-identify as a branding consultant and social media strategist, as opposed to a social media manager. It’s funny, for years I’ve described my working self as someone who takes your company or brand and puts a human voice on it. Turns out, that’s branding. Most people reach out to me because they’re either not on social, or they are, but it’s not yielding results. I’m a strong visualizer and can see the gap in who they’re trying to reach, who they’re missing, and how to get there. My biggest successes have been when I’ve been able to come in, define or re-define the brand and then build a social strategy around it.

Are you reading this and can help me with something on this list? Maybe you’re a video editor, or know how to make an online class. Email me at: theblondemule@gmail.com

P.S. I’m not doing my yearly September Issues post because - who has money? But please read this one from 2018 and remember a simpler time of buying magazines and wearing clothes. Bras? I don’t know her.
