Weekly Roundup 7.7.19
So I met some bison this week. On the 4th, John and I drove to Land Between the Lakes. There’s an elk and bison prairie there, but it had been storming and we weren’t sure if we’d see any bison. Wrong! We saw a million bison. It was low-key exhilarating. Who knew?
In other news, Mark Zuckerberg’s internet went down on Wednesday, which is super fun if you’re a social media manager with multiple clients. It was a completely manageable, low stress day. That night I had the pleasure of meeting The Drunkest Man At The Concert (essay forthcoming). John and I went to ELO and sat beside, you guessed it, the drunkest man at the concert. We also sat behind your dad, who filmed the entire concert in landscape mode on his iPhone 4.
Here are some things that entered my orbit this week.
I started watching Better Things on Hulu and I’m really into it. I didn’t know I liked Pamela Adlon so much.
I think most of us follow Alok Vaid-Menon on Instagram, but that’s the bulk of my exposure to them. Not anymore! They were on Getting Curious with JVN and it was so great! Highly recommend listening to their conversation.
I also listened to Shannon Watts on With Friends Like These. Shannon is the founder of Moms Demand Action. I have a bad habit of not learning about things I agree with, so I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know about Moms Demand Action. Turns out, a lot! Has anyone read Shannon’s book, Fight Like A Mother? I’m interested.
Queer fiction and essay writer, Kristen Arnett, is going to be at Parnassus on Monday night. I’m so excited to see/meet her. I bought Kristen’s new book, Mostly Dead Things, and I’m loving it so far. See you there?
*If you buy a book from either Parnassus or The Bookshop today, 10% of your purchase goes towards RAICES Texas, so maybe go do that.
